The Codex: a smoke-wreathed black book with a gold drake seal on the cover.

The Age of High Gold is ending.

Read the world the fire took.

Before the Ashfall, forty Drake-blooded Houses ruled the Vaelarian Freehold by dragon-count and blood-oath. They commanded glass-steel, swore law in High Vaelarian, and built thrones on a tongue they claimed was older than themselves. They were wrong. Now the sigils, the lies, and the silence that unmade them live in one Codex.

Forty Houses, three realms

The Vaelarian Freehold, the Jade Throne of Qarath, and the Aelari of the High Spine — separate worlds bound by one hidden history.

The Ashfall is coming

Every story is set in the last golden age, when the dragonlords still held the sky and no one yet knew what made the fire go silent.

Most fantasy worlds are painted scenery. Vaelaria is a civilisation on the eve of its own ruin.

This is the Age of High Gold. The Vaelarian Freehold rules by dragon-count and blood-oath. The Jade Throne of Qarath has outlived every empire it watched burn. The Aelari of the High Spine keep the secret of the wind in songs they will not write down. Vaelaria was built as a history first — and every page is set in the silence before the fall.

  • The Conclave of Forty. Every Drake-blooded House has a sigil, words, a seat, and a doom. The election of the Archon is tearing the Freehold apart before the Ashfall ever strikes.
  • An older tongue than the dragonlords. The Deep Tongue waits beneath the empire's foundations. The Vaelarians claim descent from it. Linguistically, they do not.
  • Three realms, one silence. Old Vaelaria, Qarath, and the Aelari each carry a different answer to why the dragons stopped answering. The real answer is held back.

Enter the Age of High Gold

Portrait of the world-builder behind Vaelaria

Why I built Vaelaria

World-builder · Lorewright · Independent creator

I wanted a world I could not find: an original dragonlord civilization with its own heraldry, its own languages, its own laws — and a fall so complete that the survivors are still arguing about what caused it. Vaelaria is the result of years of world-building across three realms: the Freehold, Qarath, and the Aelari.

The universe is built to be read like a history and used like a setting. Whether you come for the tragedy, the grandeur, or the mystery, the door is open.
